Hello everyone, my name is Michael Lucas, or just Michael.
I am a native Floridian, originally from the Orlando area. In 2007, I relocated to High Springs, a small town in Northwest Alachua County. Currently, I (mostly) reside in Anthony, FL, which another small community in the "Horse Capital of the World" (Marion County). However, my plan is to return to High Springs within the next 5-8 years.
I hold a BAS in Information System Technology with a concentration in Programming. I am employed full-time as a Software Developer for a company specializing in research and development related to environmental situational awareness and hurricane risk analysis. The majority of my work involves utilizing historical, regional and global climate datasets. This career shift came after almost 15 years of service in local County government at a number of roles. During that time, I developed a fondness for GIS, starting as a Senior Engineering Technician and later transitioning into the role of GIS Analyst for the County's Environmental Protection Department.
My time at UWF is dedicated to reaffirming and expanding my knowledge using geospatial information & analysis. My goal is to combine my information technology education with a GIS education to advance my current career in software development. Specifically, focused on continuous integration and continuous delivery/deployment (CI/CD) of geospatial information.
